Q: Is the Global Proficiency Certificate (GPC) open to all Mason students?

A: Yes, the GPC is available to all Mason students who, regardless of major or program, are interested in gaining a broader global perspective. *You may begin the certificate as non-degree or English as a Second Language (ESL) student, however prior to completing the program you must be enrolled in a degree program and fully admitted to GMU.

Q: Is the GPC a minor?

A: No, the GPC is a unique program that integrates academic course work with international study and cross-cultural activities and experiences. On successfully completing the GPC requirements, you will be able to list the certificate on your resume and/or curriculum vitae to show prospective employers and graduate program committees.

Q: Do classes that count toward my major and minor also count for the GPC?

A: Yes, they may. Talk to your academic advisor and the GPC program coordinator about courses that can fulfill both your degree and GPC requirements.

Q: Can activities I have already completed be used to fulfill GPC requirements?

A: Up to half of your Global Activities and Experience points may come from post high school activities completed prior to applying to the GPC.

Q: What do I do after I Apply?

A: Upon receipt of your application, the GPC program coordinator will contact you with orientation details.
